Hurricane Zeta: Recovery Update

October 31, 2020 - 2 p.m.

Tulane’s Emergency Response teams are in full swing as they cleanup and repair campus to ready it for classes next week. Entergy has made much progress in restoring power, but outages remain in the city. Given this, we will not make an announcement regarding Monday’s operations and classes until tomorrow. The School of Medicine will issue a separate message regarding their operational plans.

You can find out more about the city’s clean up and recovery efforts at ready.nola.com.

Halloween Hazards
Throughout the city, there are still downed trees and limbs, power lines and other hazards – we strongly encourage caution when walking or driving. Some streetlights and traffic signals are out as well, making driving at night particularly hazardous. When traffic lights are out (or flashing red), treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.
Updates on impacts, services and access
Campus Access and Dining: All off-campus students (undergraduate and graduate/professional), faculty and staff are welcome to come to campus to charge devices, access Wi-Fi and get food (all dining services are fully operational).

Extended through tomorrow (11/1), the university will provide three meals for free at the Commons, Dining Pavilion and Green Wave Grille for all students – undergraduate and graduate/professional – with a valid Splash Card.

Campus areas open include: the LBC (including food court), the Commons, Reily Student Recreation Center, PJ’s Coffee (Willow and Stern), Marshall Family Commons (Business School), the Dining Pavilion and the Green Wave Grille. The temporary structures on Monroe Quad, Berger Family Lawn and Newcomb Quad have access to Wi-Fi and are open for use. For more information about dining, see diningservices.tulane.edu.

Student Support Services: We are here to support you, if you need assistance, please reach out to us by email: srss@tulane.edu or call: (504) 920-9900.

Transportation: Point-to-point shuttles are currently running, and Green Wave Hall shuttles will be running until 5 p.m. throughout the weekend.

COVID-19 Testing: Testing has resumed at the Phelps and downtown locations. Please look for notices to schedule or re-schedule testing appointments.

Coursework: If you are concerned about upcoming assignments that you are unable to complete due to power and internet outages, please communicate directly with your instructor – if possible – about your circumstances. They have all been encouraged to be flexible and many of them are experiencing the same challenges.

Howard-Tilton Memorial Library: The library will open today at 3 p.m.

It is critical that we continue to exercise caution in the storm’s aftermath. There are downed power lines and other hazards in the city that can cause serious harm. We also need to keep the streets cleared for those who are cleaning up and working diligently to restore power. Please remember to continue to practice all COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing face coverings and maintaining social distance.

Please continue to look for email updates, which will also be posted online at tulane.edu/emergency. You can also stay updated with NOLA Ready emergency alerts.
