Campus Closure Reminder

September 6, 2021
5 p.m.

Dear Tulane Community,

In the past few days, our Damage Assessment & Recovery Team (DART) and their contractors have been on our campuses beginning recovery work. Damage assessments and repairs are currently underway with the goal of getting our campus ready for the safe return of all faculty, staff and students as quickly as possible. This process includes numerous vehicles and contractors as well as the use of heavy machinery. In order to safely facilitate this work, students, faculty, and staff are not allowed to enter campus buildings until further notice, including offices and residence hall rooms, and should not access our campuses.

At this time, all buildings on all campuses remain locked down to everyone but essential personnel and contractors who are performing the mission critical work related to damage assessments and recovery, with the exceptions listed below:

  • The Office of Environmental Health & Safety and leadership from the School of Medicine have coordinated a rolling open of labs in Hutchinson and JBJ. Lab personnel will be contacted directly with details.

  • The Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life will be open to Tulane faculty and staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for the foreseeable future to allow you to charge your devices and use Wi-Fi. Please note: access is restricted to the garden level and the first floor; staffing will be limited and no services or resources will be provided beyond basic security; food service in the Dining Room at the Commons is available only to essential personnel engaged in the recovery work of our campuses; and, to ensure that our emergency and repair workers have the necessary access to conduct their work, faculty and staff are not permitted to park on Law Road, on-campus between Freret and Willow, in the Diboll Parking Garage, or in the Claiborne Avenue Lot.

We will be scheduling time for faculty and staff to safely access buildings so items can be retrieved to aid in online teaching and remote work. A message with this schedule will be sent separately.

Thank you for your understanding, compliance, and support during this time,

Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response
