Moroccan Rhythms, NOLA Beats: An Evening with Mahmoud Chouki
Monday April 15th 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Mahmoud “Mood” Chouki is a Moroccan master guitarist resident in New Orleans. Born and raised in Morocco, he is now an integral part of the city’s musical scene, combining traditional blues with Moroccan rhythms. He has performed across the Arab world and Europe, while also teaching music at the Lycée Français de la Nouvelle Orléans and curating monthly music programs at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA).
The Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Studies Program is pleased to invite Mahmoud to our campus for an end-of-the-year conference, and to an extend an invitation to all students, faculty, and affiliates across campus to enjoy Mahmoud’s music, meet MENA studies faculty and affiliates, and learn more about the program. The performance will commence at 6:00pm, Monday April 15th in the Stone Auditorium (within the Woldenberg Art Center). Light refreshments will be available in an adjoining room during and after the performance.
