Emerging Leaders Program

Offered to Tulane University employees at the Manager level and above, the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a strategic and professional growth opportunity for high performing Tulane University employees that are interested in sharpening their leadership skills to take their career to the next level. The ELP is specifically designed to give emerging leaders the time and space to gain a greater understanding of the organization of Tulane, enhance their current leadership skills, collaborate on current initiatives, and strengthen their practice within a university-wide network.

Graduates of the ELP will receive a certificate and digital badge distinguishing them as members of a network of university leaders who are dedicated to the betterment and growth of Tulane University and who will be champions in leading future change initiatives in the Tulane community.

Program Goals

The Emerging Leaders Program seeks to:

1. Bring together a network of dedicated, high-potential Tulane employees;
 

2. Provide Emerging Leaders the knowledge, skills, abilities, and leadership competencies, needed to be competitive and successful in today's organizational leadership landscape;
 

3. Provide Emerging Leaders a more expansive view of Tulane University as an organization and community of faculty, staff, and students; 
 

4. Provide Emerging Leaders the space and time to engage in discussion around current leadership topics, challenges, and the opportunities and challenges that face Tulane University; 
 

5. Provide Emerging Leaders the platform, resources, guidance, and encouragement to lead change initiatives in the Tulane and New Orleans community upon graduation. 
 

Program Highlights

  • Nine-month intensive program focusing on building the leadership competencies to implement strategy and lead change in today's higher education landscape
  • Strategic career planning using an Individual Development Plan created in collaboration with direct supervisors
  • Immerse in powerful, hands-on learning based on adult learning principles and transformational learning practices
  • Hand-selected curriculum based on leadership best practices, academic literature, and current issues and opportunities at Tulane University
  • Engage and network with individuals from different departments to share with and learn from the different experiences, roles, and knowledge that make up the cohort 
  • Opportunity for individual coaching based on your current role, responsibilities, and career goals at the University 
  • Limited to a select Cohort of 30 emerging leaders from across the University

 

2023-2024 ELP

The 2023-2024 Emerging Leaders Program will run from August 2023 to May 2024, and applications for the 2023-2024 program will open on April 14, 2023, with selections in June 2023.

The deadline to submit applications is May 26th, 2023, at 3:00 pm central time. 

 

Curriculum

The Emerging Leaders Program curriculum is hand-designed to Tulane faculty and staff to seeking Take on leadership roles and to promote involvement and inclusion in the broader university community.

The ELP empowers Tulane faculty and staff to explore different leadership practices and navigate new leadership opportunities at Tulane through the program’s balance of foundational leadership topics; Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives; applied, practical learnings; and reflective and transformational individual coaching.

2023 - 2024 ELP Syllabus and Curriculum 

Cohort

The Tulane University Leadership Institute defines Emerging Leader as a high potential employee committed to:

1. Developing and gaining the necessary skills needed to extend their reach beyond their team and department;
2. Taking on leadership roles and opportunities in the broader Tulane community; and,
3. Promoting growth mindset and a culture of life-long learning at Tulane University.

The Institute has proudly seated Emerging Leader cohorts that are diverse not only in race, ethnicity, age, and gender, but also in roles at the University, levels of experience, thinking preferences, and management styles. The diversity of the Emerging Leaders Program cohorts allow for an inclusive culture of learning, growth, and development.

 

Criteria

To be considered for the 2023 ELP Cohort, all applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have at least 1 Direct Report as indicated in HRIS;
     
  • Must have at least 2 years of employment at Tulane University;
     
  • Must be willing and able to attend 13/17 synchronous group learning sessions in the program;
     
  • Must be willing and able to attend 5/7 group coaching sessions in the program;
     
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to furthering the mission, vision, and current initiatives of Tulane University;
     
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to creating a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace and organization.

Letter of Support from Supervisor/Manager

The 2023-2024 ELP Application Document can be found here. Please download and fill in the PDF. Save the completed PDF to your computer and prepare to submit an electronic copy with your Qualtrics application. The document takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
Please ensure you have included in your CV/resumé your current role at Tulane and relevant experience to the program you are applying for. CV/resumé should be in .docx or .pdf format.
All applicants must obtain a letter of support from their current manager or supervisor that addresses the manager's/supervisor's support for the applicant's growth and learning as well as their support for the applicant's time and energy required to participant in the program. The Letter of Support template can be found here. Applicants should send the template to their supervisors for them to complete, then upload the completed letter of support with their additional application materials to the ELP Qualtrics application.
