Testing Notifications

August 20, 2020

Tulane University is requiring all students, faculty and staff to participate in the ongoing Campus Health COVID-19 Testing Program. Learn more by visiting the Return to Campus website. Undergraduate students will be tested weekly and graduate students, faculty and staff will be tested monthly (at least). Please watch for scheduling notices, as this frequency may change based on capacity and trends in our community.

You will have 7 days to complete your testing from the time you receive your scheduling email. Please schedule your test immediately to be able to identify a scheduling window that aligns with your availability.

  • Newcomb-Tulane College undergraduate students will begin receiving emails to schedule testing on 8/21/2020.

  • Faculty, staff, graduate and professional students, and SOPA students will begin receiving emails to schedule testing on 9/4/2020.
Testing Directions
  • The scheduling email (from lablynx) will be your notice to schedule testing at one of our testing centers. There will be an attached unique QR code for your individual test to be performed. Do not share your unique QR Code, it is linked to your private health information. QR Codes cannot be re-used — you will receive a new QR code each time you are required to get tested.

  • Please have your SPLASH ID number available and bring the original email with the QR code attachment with you to the testing center.

  • You should receive results within 48 hours via email. Email CHTestResults@tulane.edu if you do not receive results within 48 hours.
General COVID-19 Testing & Quarantine/Isolation Protocols
  • If you believe you have been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, DO NOT go to a testing center. Wait for guidance from your health care provider. To notify the university, complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form and someone will contact you with next steps. Please note, a close contact is someone who spent 15 minutes or more, closer than 6 feet, with someone who tested positive. Visit the Return to Campus website for more information regarding contacts.

  • Currently, CDC and Louisiana Dept. of Health Guidelines are using a symptom-based strategy for release from self-isolation (after testing positive for COVID-19) and quarantine (after exposure to a close contact). Self-isolation can end 10 days after the first positive test if the individual has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours. A close contact will be asked to quarantine for 14 days and to monitor symptoms. Testing will not allow for an earlier release and is not currently recommended in these situations. However, if testing is conducted for a quarantined close contact, it cannot be done less than 5 days after exposure. A negative testing during quarantine does not change or reduce the quarantine period.

  • Students will have the option to either quarantine/isolate at Paterson House or off campus. Students may not quarantine or isolate in their residence hall rooms, even if they have a single occupancy room. All students can move into Paterson House, including graduate students and those undergraduates living off campus.

  • Contact tracers from Campus Health are notified of all COVID-19 positive tests completed through the Tulane System immediately. If students, faculty and staff are tested outside the Tulane System, it is important to complete a COVID-19 Reporting Form as quickly as possible to notify contact tracers.

  • If you receive a positive result or believe you are a close contact, please self-isolate/quarantine immediately. You will get follow-up from a contact tracer within 24 hours of reporting your close contact.

Thank you,

Campus Health
