COVID Testing Updates, Booster Requirements

December 17, 2021

Dear Tulane Community:

As we prepare for Winter Break, we wanted to update you on testing availability through December 23.

Uptown Campus

The last available day for asymptomatic COVID-19 testing uptown will be Monday, Dec. 20. The Phelps Testing Center will close for the year at 4 p.m. Monday, December 20. Uptown symptomatic individuals or close contacts can go to the Student Health Center for testing through Dec. 22.

Downtown Campus

Symptomatic and Travel COVID Testing will be available over the Winter break for Tulane employees and students only – not friends and family. Tests will be administered by walk-in, with no appointments necessary. Results will take 24-48 hours.

Hutchinson Memorial Building (1430 Tulane Ave) in Room 1810 (the former bookstore) in the back corner of the building. To access the testing center, please use the second side entrance on Lasalle St. to enter the Hutchinson building (look for signage for guidance).

Closed Friday Dec. 24
*Mon Dec. 27 - Thurs Dec. 30 - 8:30 a.m. - noon

Campus Health will not provide tracing services during Winter Break. Individuals who test positive during this period should report their case via the COVID-19 Reporting Form. Louisiana Contact Tracing should contact you for follow-up. Due to expected delays in state contact tracing over the holidays, we strongly encourage you to contact your close contacts yourself.
The Tulane Testing Centers will re-open Jan 5.  More information about Spring 2022 testing requirements will be forthcoming.

Booster Requirement

Booster vaccines are quickly emerging as the best defense against the Omicron variant, which is responsible for an increasing number of new infections. All faculty and staff are currently required to receive a booster vaccine once they become eligible (six months after completing their initial series.)

In the spring semester, we also expect to require booster vaccines for students when they become eligible to receive them. We strongly urge any student who is currently eligible to receive their booster to do so prior to the beginning of the spring semester.
