COVID-19 Update: Tulane Moves to Green Action Alert Level

Dear Tulane Community:

Due to the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases both at Tulane and throughout New Orleans, we are lowering the university’s Action Alert Level to Green.

Under this new action alert level, we will cease sending daily symptom check-in text reminders. However, we will continue to test all undergrads twice a week. Graduate and professional students will also continue to get tested every two weeks, as will faculty, staff and Sodexo/Allied staff members. This rate of testing, one of the most frequent in the nation, will enable us to quickly respond to any uptick in positive cases and immediately limit spread. Of course, all safety protocols, including mandatory face coverings, social distancing and good hand hygiene, will continue. We will also continue to follow our current policies and procedures related to guests in residence halls, crowd capacity limits for gatherings and events both on and off campus. These practices helped bring cases down to their current level and are absolutely critical to both continuing this trend and helping protect the health of ourselves and others.

There is also encouraging news regarding vaccinations. More than 50 percent of Tulane employees and contractors have already been vaccinated and, as we shared in yesterday's message, the state’s newly expanded eligibility guidelines make all Tulane employees – including faculty, staff and student workers – eligible. In addition, all students who meet the state’s high-risk medical eligibility requirements can also receive vaccines. We continue to document all vaccines distributed at the Tulane University COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic, but if you have been vaccinated at a location OTHER than the Tulane University COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic, please fill out this simple survey.

All students, faculty and staff who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine from an entity outside of Tulane should submit documentation through the Campus Health patient portal to update your vaccination records. If you received your vaccine through Tulane, we will upload those records automatically, you do not need to take action.

How to submit your COVID-19 vaccine record:

  • Log into the patient portal using your Tulane email address (without the @tulane.edu) and your email password
  • Click "Immunization" in the top menu (be patient while the page loads)
  • Find “COVID-19 Vaccine Recommended” and click in the blue bar so the drop down appears
  • Fill in the date you completed the COVID-19 vaccine (date of second dose for two-dose administration). When finished, click "Submit."
  • Please click the link to upload a copy of your vaccine documentation so that your information can be verified, it will appear via a pop-up window.
  • To upload your documentation, click the drop-down arrow and select “Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine.”
  • Click "Select File" to upload your documentation.

Throughout the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, Tulane has strictly followed the guidance from federal, state and local public health officials. We will continue to do so as the “light at the end of the tunnel” grows larger and brighter with each passing day. We hope to hear soon from the city regarding allowances and restrictions for graduation exercises and will share an update on our plans accordingly for Commencement 2021.
