Dear Tulane Community:
The historic opening of Yulman Stadium, Tulane's first on-campus football stadium in nearly 40 years, is just a day away. Many thanks and congratulations to the donors, designers, architects, engineers, construction workers and staff who have made this dream come true. I wish you could have seen the expressions on the students' faces as they entered their stadium for the first time Tuesday evening at the "In the Land of the Wave" event. Longtime Tulanians tell me they have not seen this level of excitement among students and Green Wave fans for decades. Come to think of it, I have not been this fired up myself for decades.
You can get fired up, too, at two special events today. From 3 to 5 p.m. on the Game Day Plaza in front of Yulman Stadium we will officially dedicate Yulman Stadium and Benson Field and hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the the Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Family Club. The custom-designed Tulane float will also be on view for the first time. A reception will follow at the Glazer Family Club. The "Yell for Yulman" pep rally will take place from 4 to 7:30 p.m., today on the LBC Quad. All Tulane fans are invited to enjoy live music by Bonerama, food, wine, beer and soft drinks. Our Green Wave players and Coach CJ will also stop by. Fans of all ages will be treated to commemorative T-shirts and tank tops, as well as other inaugural season giveaways and a fireworks display. There will be even more excitement and very special surprises (trust me on this) come game day. Be sure to arrive early for tailgating on the LBC quad. It's going to be a helluva hullabaloo!
