Griff Lee is a Structural Engineer offering consulting services in Offshore, Marine and Ocean Engineering through his firm Griff C. Lee Inc. These services are primarily related to the design review, technical evaluation and assessment for fixed offshore platforms and related facilities.
Mr. Lee received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Tulane University and his Masters from Rice University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He is a member of several Professional Engineering Organizations and has served as a member of technical committees for the American Petroleum Institute, The Marine Board of the National Research Council, American Bureau of Shipping, Lloyds of London and Norske Veritas of Oslo, Norway. He is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in the States of Alaska, California, Louisiana and Texas.
In 1948 Mr. Lee began his professional career with the Humble Oil Company (now Exxon) as a Civil Engineer. In 1954, he was employed by McDermott as a Design Engineer and progressed through positions of Principal Design Engineer, Chief Engineer, Vice President of Engineering and Vice President of Research and Development. Since 1983, Mr. Lee has worked as a consultant in private practice. In 1955, working with another engineer, he is credited with the development of the skirt pile foundation system for offshore platforms and the first use of the launching technique for installation of platform jackets. Both concepts have been used on almost all deep-water offshore platforms that have been installed since that time.
In 1980, Mr. Lee was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and in 1983 was named as Louisiana’s only Honorary Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was selected as the Outstanding Engineering Alumni of Rice University for 1990-1991. In 1997, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the offshore industry, he was named as one of the four individuals to receive the Offshore Heritage Award. In 1998, in the first year of the award, he was one of the fifteen inducted into the Offshore Energy Hall of Fame as an Industry Pioneer. In 2002 he was inducted into the Tulane School of Engineering Hall of Fame. In 2005 he was honored by the University of New Orleans for “Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering."
Mr. Lee is currently serving on the Tulane School of Science and Engineering Board of Advisors and the University of New Orleans Engineering Advisory Council and has served on similar boards at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rice University and the University of Texas. At Tulane, he was elected to Tau Beta Pi and is a Chapter Honor Member of Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Society. He is married to the former Eugenia Humphreys. They have three children and one grandson."
