Academics

Global Health Programs

The academic program at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is designed to provide a comprehensive, practice-based, global health-focused education at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The school offers degrees in six academic departments and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Master's Programs

SPHTM offers four professional degree programs leading to the master of public health (MPH), master of science in public health (MSPH), master of health administration (MHA), and master of public health and tropical medicine (MPH&TM) degrees. Master's students complete 42-45 credits, including core competency courses in six key areas of public health, a practicum, and a culminating experience.

A master of science (MS) degree is also offered. The MS is an academic research degree with study in biostatistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, or clinical research. The MS degree requirements range from 36-45 credits.

Our master's programs combine classroom experience with hands-on experiential learning.

Doctoral Programs

The school offers both academic and professional doctoral degrees including the doctor of philosophy (PhD), doctor of public health (DrPH), doctor of science (ScD).

Doctoral programs require a minimum of 72 credits, independent research, and a dissertation.

The Undergraduate Degree

The Tulane BSPH program was first offered in 2006 and is now the fastest-growing undergraduate program at the university. The degree is an excellent start to a fulfilling public health career.

Students can also pursue combined or interdisciplinary programs of study, or combine their public health education with service in the Peace Corps. Our MD/MPH program is the oldest and largest such program in the country. We also offer distance learning degrees and certificates in several environmental health specialties.
