For the past five years, Sherry Leventhal has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Neighborhood House Charter School, a K-8 charter school which primarily serves underprivileged children from Boston’s inner city. During her tenure as chair, the school doubled the size of its student body and constructed a new school building to house 400 students.
Mrs. Leventhal also serves on the Board of Trustees of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and chairs its Regulatory Compliance Committee. She is a member of the Board of Visitors of the Boston University School of Medicine and the Dean’s Advisory Board of Tulane Law School. Mrs. Leventhal was a founding director of Discovering Justice: The James D. St. Clair Court Education Project, an organization that brings middle school students to the federal courthouse in Boston to learn about the American legal system.
Mrs. Leventhal is a native of New Orleans and until she relocated to Boston in 1997, was a partner at the New Orleans law firm of Lemle & Kelleher LLP, specializing in real estate, banking and commercial transactions. While living in New Orleans, she served as a trustee of Metairie Park Country Day School and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Children’s Bureau of New Orleans.
Mrs. Leventhal graduated with highest honors from Northwestern University in 1974 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J. D. from Tulane University Law School in 1977. As a law student, she served on the Board of Editors of the Tulane Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.
