Hosting social events with alcohol is a privilege granted to student organizations by Tulane University. The Alcohol Policy requires student organizations that wish to host events with alcohol to have Sober Event Monitors in place during their event. The Sober Event Monitor training helps students make sound choices when faced with difficult decisions about alcohol use. The training is an interactive, discussion-based program facilitated by a trained Sober Event Monitor facilitator.

Sober Event Monitor Eligibility

The Sober Event Monitor training does not qualify any student/faculty or staff to serve drinks or check state issued IDs during a Tulane related event. You are eligible to serve as a Sober Event Monitor if all of the following conditions are met:

  • You are 21 or over
  • You are Sober Event Monitor certified by Tulane University
  • You are not currently in substance abuse treatment or on disciplinary probation with the Office of Student Conduct

REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Please remember you need to be 21 or over to serve as a Sober Event Monitor. For questions about SEM at Tulane, please e-mail Mark Knapp at mknapp1@tulane.edu.
