Tulane fans have been cheering all season for junior kicker Cairo Santos, who converted all 21 field goals he attempted. Now fans can help him win a national award by casting an on-line vote for him.

Santos is one of three finalists for the Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards.

A national panel of voters will choose the winner, but fans have a voice as well — fans can vote on-line at this link (scroll down to the poll in yellow). On-line voting ends at midnight on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The finalist who receives the most fan votes will be given one vote on the final ballot. “One vote can make a difference in the final outcome, so fans are encouraged to participate,” according to the award organizers.

This season, Santos has rewritten the Tulane record books. He was 12 for 12 on kicks from 40 yards or more and kicked two field goals beyond 50 yards. He also hit 24 of 25 points after touchdown, with one that was blocked.

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Santos prepped as an exchange student in St. Augustine, Fla.

He is competing for the Lou Groza Award against Caleb Sturgis from the University of Florida and Dustin Hopkins from Florida State University.

“This is by far one of the biggest honors I have ever received, and I am very happy to represent my teammates and my university,” Santos said. “I am very grateful for my coaches and teammates who have helped me get to this point. I would not be here without them.”
