Tom Stafford greets staffers

When Tom Stafford, left, the new interim vice president of student affairs at Tulane University, called a breakfast meeting for all staff members in his division, it meant a chance to get to know Emily Roser, center, and Sarah Hoffpauir, social workers with the Counseling and Psychological Services staff at the Student Health Center.

More than 120 student affairs employees, representing Orientation and Parent Programs, the Reily Center and Campus Recreation, Housing and Residential Life, the Office of Disability Services, Student Programs, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Student Health Center, the Wellness Center and Greek Life, attended the session on Oct. 23 in the Lavin-Bernick Center. Stafford spoke to the group about his “Students First” approach and raised his coffee mug, emblazoned with those words, in an early-morning toast.

Stafford came to Tulane after a career of more than 40 years at North Carolina State University. For the last 30 years there, he served as chancellor of student affairs. Stafford will remain at Tulane until the university names its permanent new head of student affairs. A national search is under way to fill the position.
