 Students on a swamp tour

When Tulane students head to New Orleans for their first semester, they could end up in an airboat looking for alligators out on a swampy bayou. It’s one of those “Only at Tulane, Only in New Orleans” adventures that’s a regular feature of the NOLA Experience program for new students. This photo taken by university photographer Sally Asher caught the eye of editors at U.S. News and World Report, who included it in their 2013 picks of “Best Colleges in Photos.” It’s number eight out of 20 on display on the U.S. News website. More than 900 colleges and universities submitted nearly 12,000 photos of student life to the editors.
