Title: “Prioritized”: The Hip Hop (Re)Construction of Black Womanhood in Girlfriends and The Game

Bio: Dr. Nghana Lewis is a proud Alumnus of Newcomb College, from which she graduated in 1994, with a degree in English.  She went on to earn a Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a JD from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.  She has practiced law for close to ten years, focusing primarily on criminal defense, labor, civil rights, and social security litigation.  Dr. Lewis’ research and teaching cross-sectionally focus on black literary and cultural studies, criminal justice reform, and black women’s health.  Her presentation is excerpted from the third chapter of her current book manuscript, Black Women’s Health in the Age of Hip Hop & HIV/AIDS.
