Our programs in Disaster Management develop the skills to prepare for, respond to and manage the public health aspects of natural and man-made disasters - locally to globally. The online graduate certificate is a non-degree program that provides skills in working within the management structure and operational models unique to disasters including; crises communication, population issues and psychosocial aspects of disasters.

Community Health Sciences

Our Master of Public Health programs in Community Health Sciences focus on developing knowledge and skills to work with communities in addressing health needs and health disparities and improving quality of life. This work requires skills in social and behavioral aspects of community health, monitoring and evaluation of community-based programs, community training methodologies, and leadership approaches to promote community health and well-being.

Biostatistics

Program Overview

Biostatistics utilizes statistical reasoning and quantitative methods applied to public health, medical settings, and research. Biostatistics involves the collection and analysis of data and the interpretation, inference, and visualization of these results. 

Whether you are interested in pursuing a master's, Ph.D. or joint degree, biostatistics is the choice for students who enjoy using data to solve problems in the areas of public health and medicine.

Physiology

Program Overview

The one-year Master’s program will increase your competitiveness for medical schools or equivalent professional programs. We also offer a Ph.D. program that follows the regulations of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. The MD/Ph.D. program is available to selected medical students who wish to consider research careers and medical practice.

Pharmacology

Program Overview

Our one-year program is designed for those interested in improving their credentials to gain admission to a medical or dental school. Over the past five years 79% of graduates have gained admittance into the post-professional school of their choice.

The Ph.D. program follows the regulations of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program where all doctoral students take the same multidisciplinary courses during the first year, and then select pharmacology discipline as their choice during the second year to pursue their research goals.  

Tulane medical students may also pursue a dual MD/MS or MD/Ph.D. in Pharmacology.

Pathology

Program Overview

This program provides students with opportunities to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of human diseases through didactic teaching and research training. Two options are available, which are designed not only to enhance the academic credentials for individuals wishing to pursue a career in a health-related science, but also to ease the transition to medical/graduate school. It is housed in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program.

Bioethics and Medical Humanities

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Bioethics and Medical Humanities within the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program at Tulane School of Medicine can be earned in two years full-time or in one year in an accelerated format. It can also be taken part-time. 

As healthcare becomes increasingly complex with both technological advances as well as social decisions that must be faced, this graduate program will assist any learner who wishes to pursue healthcare ethics and humanities in their future. 

The master’s degree can be achieved by incoming students at the Tulane School of Medicine as a Dual MD/MS completed within four years.

Graduate Certificates can be earned in Clinical Ethics, Research Ethics, or Medical Humanities. Courses taken while earning certificates may also be applied to earn the MS degree.

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Program Overview

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has a robust education and research program consisting of two Master's Programs, a Ph.D. program, and a dual MD/Ph.D. program.

Our one-year Master of Science program is primarily designed to enrich and improve academic credentials of students to gain entrance into medical-, dental- or health profession-related schools. The two-year program is designed to provide advanced training in the biochemical sciences and prepare students for a career in research.

The Ph.D. program is within the framework of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences. Areas of research strength include growth signaling and cancer, DNA and RNA binding proteins, and protein/peptide structure, function and folding.

This one-year Master’s program, housed in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, is designed to improve credentials for candidates who plan to attend medical school, dental school, or other professional degree programs. The degree program offers a carefully designed curriculum that includes taking classes with medical students, participating in a learning experience that closely models the medical school environment.

The Dual MD/MS degree is offered to Tulane medical students who have an interest in a future career in a surgical specialty.

Latin American Studies & Art History

Program Overview

The Ph.D. in Latin American Studies & Art History is a small and highly selective program. Students must develop a primary concentration, such as Pre-Columbian, colonial, or modern, and a secondary one within Latin American Art or a comparative area. 

This program is housed in the Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies, one of the largest and most prestigious interdisciplinary units at Tulane. It functions in many capacities to ensure students gain comprehensive knowledge of Latin America through a mixture of academic study, specialized training and research abroad.
