The Mary Amelia Women’s Center (MAC) was established in 2003 as The Mary Amelia Douglas-Whited Community Women’s Health Education Center, and was the community outreach core of the Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health (TUXCOE). As the active TUXCOE contract came to an end MAC expanded its reach to address the important goals and meet the commitments initiated by TUXCOE. MAC continues an innovative, multifaceted approach to the health of women and their families across the lifespan through community capacity building, health education and prevention, advocacy, leadership development, and research.
We have a strong commitment to translating research into action and recommendations into policy. Assisting community organizations and leaders with implementation and program evaluation are equally important aspects of the Center staff’s commitment to social change and reducing inequities in women’s health.
