July 11, 2011
Technology Services will migrate faculty and staff email services to WaveMail, the system students have been using since Fall 2010.
What will change and when?
Your email addresses will remain the same.
Technology Services will begin a department by department migration beginning July 15. Our goal is to complete the migration by September 30. Technical administrative contacts have been notified of the email upgrade. Technology Services will contact Department Heads to schedule an optimal time to migrate your department. We have taken care to ensure that account migration will include customers’ email, calendar and contacts. Resource accounts and distribution lists will also be transferred to WaveMail.
Customers will have to modify the settings on personal devices - including desktop computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets. Support technicians will be available to assist with this.
CommVault customers will be migrated starting August 1, 2011. These customers require more time to ensure a transparent migration because additional preparation is required to transfer their accounts.
Departments with Blackberry users and customers with HIPAA compliance obligations cannot be moved to the WaveMail system at this time. We will announce plans for an upgraded messaging environment for these customers in Fall 2011.
Benefits
WaveMail:
1. offers increased email storage for customers (current quota is 300MB, WaveMail quota is 10GB — more than 30 times the storage)
2. includes integrated instant messaging, Office Online web applications, Microsoft Mesh and Skydrive storage
3. offers Macintosh users full access to Exchange features with Office 2011
4. provides a Cloud-based solution — eliminating our need for an emergency email system in the event of evacuation or other emergency
5. offers a fully functional web interface similar to the Outlook feature-set including sharing, calendars, contacts, and administrative tools.
