The Innovative Learning Center provides all these services and much, much more. We offer a variety of technology equipment and services to support the academic goals of Tulane faculty and staff. For more information on any of the services listed below, please call 504-862-8594.
Learning Tools
The following is a list of learning tools offered and supported by Technology Services.
- Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro (formerly Adobe Breeze)
- Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro is a comprehensive web-based desktop meeting solution. Features include screen and document sharing, whiteboard capabilities, and communication tools via text chat, and audio and video conferencing. The system also includes record and playback capabilities of any online meeting for viewing at a later date.
- Classroom Response System (Clickers)
- Classroom Response Systems (CRSs) have been installed in several of the technology-enabled general pool classrooms on the Uptown campus. Students use simple and inexpensive clickers, similar to a television remote control, to respond to questions posed by the instructor. Students can purchase clickers at the Tulane Bookstore. Clickers, once purchased, can be used in multiple rooms and with multiple courses. This technology can have an immediate impact on teaching and learning by enabling student interaction and assisting in the collecting and tallying of student responses in either a tracked or anonymous setting. Tulane has selected the H-ITT system as its CRS. - myTulane
- myTulane is Tulane's Blackboard instance. The system is hosted by Blackboard, Inc. in Washington, DC. myTulane system consists of the Blackboard component products: Learning System, Content System, Community System and Outcomes System. Tulane-specific documentation for the use of myTulane and workshop training on myTulane topics are offered by the Innovative Learning Center.
- Survey Monkey
- The Innovative Learning Center, in cooperation with the School of Medicine, has purchased a professional subscription for SurveyMonkey, a web-based survey creation tool that allows users to select from over a dozen type of questions, such as multiple choice, rating scales, open-ended, essay and more. The tool also offers skip logic and randomization of answer choices.

Classrooms and Learning Spaces
Technology Services designs and maintains classroom technology in the 69 general pool classrooms on the Tulane Uptown campus. The general pool classrooms are those rooms shared by all departments and schools, and are scheduled by the Registrar's Office – 504-865-5231.
Departmental or school classrooms are supported by the responsible department or school.

Videoconferencing & Webconferencing
Technology Services operates a group videoconferencing system on the uptown campus, available exclusively to Tulane affiliates. The venue is ideal for distance education classes, dissertation defenses, research collaborations and remote meetings. The room seats 16 and is equipped with a document camera, a PC computer, and laptop connectivity. The room rental fee is $40 per hour.
Technology Services also assists users with personal videoconferencing technology, including some webconferencing applications such as Adobe Connect.

Digital Media Production
Digital media production, editing, duplication and distribution services play an important teaching and learning role at the university. Technology Services supports faculty media production needs, particularly as it relates to classroom teaching.

Academic Technology Support Services has purchased an NCS Insight 4 optical scanner for scanning tests and evaluations. We provide scanning for tests that use the P099b and 4521 for answer sheets with a two business day turnaround time. Evaluation scanning is self-service, with staff available to assist in training and troubleshooting during business hours. For more information consult the Knowledge Base.
Web application and multimedia consulting is available by project only, on a first come, first served basis. Among the types of projects we support are: Web site creation, database creation, scanning and CD-ROM development. If you'd like to discuss your Web or multimedia application ideas, please write to us at ilc@tulane.edu.
Technology Training and Faculty Symposia
Technology Services and the Innnovative Learning Center offer training sessions on current technology on topics ranging from myTulane to Microsoft Office.

Faculty Equipment Lending
Portable equipment is available to all faculty, free of charge, for use in regularly scheduled courses meeting in classrooms on the Uptown campus. Equipment may be picked up by faculty or delivered directly to the classroom.
All non-course related uses are charged an hourly or daily rental rate. Equipment lending/rental services are not available to students or student organizations.

Satellite Downlinking
Satellite Downlinking can support reception of C-band and ku-band broadcasts and downlinked programming can be viewed on any television connected to the Tulane cable TV system (TUCAN).

Media Production Center
The Media Production Center in the Howard-Tilton memorial Library supports the creation and manipulation of digital audio, video, photography and graphics. Mac and PC media editing work stations and scanners are available for student and faculty use, and digital cameras, mics and audio recorders can be checked out.
The center will open mid-October, 2009.
Flashlight Online is a web-based survey tool for creating surveys, gathering responses, and analyzing data. It is a particularly useful in exporting results into Excel or any statistical software package. Technology Commons
Computers and other digital conveniences are available in the Tulane Technology Commons – public computing spaces located throughout the Uptown campus. Visit the Technology Commons to compose a paper, edit a video, produce a presentation, print a document, or just surf the Web. Each Technology Commons has its own character, but they all include the following: current computers, high-resolution laser printers, a full array of software, and high-speed network connections. Some locations also include color printers, iMacs, digital camcorders, and other specialized technology. Hours vary by location and season.
