Savoie 2
Felix “Buddy” H. Savoie III , MD

Dr. Buddy Savoie is a Louisiana native and a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Savoie completed his Orthopaedic surgery residency in 1987 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in arthroscopy with the late Dr. Richard Caspari, Dr. John Meyer, and Dr. Terry Whipple in Richmond, Virginia. He also completed an A-O International fellowship in Basel, Switzerland. Additionally, Dr. Savoie completed a hand and microvascular fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Mayo Clinic. He is known throughout the United States and overseas as an accomplished author and teacher.  

Dr. Savoie is board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and he comes to Tulane from Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson where he has been a great clinician, surgeon, and educator.  He is the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Orthoapaedics and Chief of the Section of Sports Medicine at Tulane. He is the Team Orthopaedist for Tulane University.  Dr. Savoie serves on the NCAA Competitive and Safeguards Committee.  He has special interests in shoulder, elbow, and wrist surgery.

Stewart 2
Gregory W. Stewart, MD

Dr. Stewart graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch and is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  He has been involved in various aspects of sports medicine for more than thirty five years. He is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the Tulane University School of Medicine and is Chief of the Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is a member of the Louisiana Athletic Trainer's Association Hall of Fame. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Stewart currently serves as the Director of Sports Medicine for the Tulane University Department of Athletics. He served as the Team Physician for the New Orleans Night Arena Football Team and participated as a member of the Medical Staff in the 1991 United States Olympic Track and Field Trials in New Orleans. He is the Chairman of the Louisiana High School Athletics Association Sports Medicine Advisory Board.  He is the Director of the Tulane Sports Concussion Program.

OBrien 2
Michael  J. O'Brien, MD

Dr. Michael O'Brien received his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in 2003. After completing his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Maryland, and a Shoulder and Elbow Reconstruction fellowship at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, he returned to New Orleans to become Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedics at Tulane. His interests include arthroscopy of the shoulder and elbow, rotator cuff disease, shoulder and elbow reconstruction including total shoulder replacements and total elbow replacements, sports medicine, ligament reconstruction of the knee, and fracture care in both adults and children. He practices at the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine clinic.

Heard 2
Wendell Heard, MD

Dr. Heard is  a fellowship trained sports surgeon.  His practice at Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine is focused on minimally invasive, arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and hip.

Additionally, he has unique training in cartilage restoration procedures aimed at patients with pre-arthritic cartilage defects who are too young for joint replacement.  He is a native New Orleanian and attended Benjamin Franklin High School. He went to college at Sewanee and returned to New Orleans for medical school at Tulane University.  After starting his orthopaedic surgery residency at Tulane, he was displaced by Hurricane Katrina and finished his intern year of training at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Brown university.  

His sports medicine fellowship was at Rush University in Chicago.  While at Rush, he assisted with team coverage of the Chicago Bulls (NBA), the Chicago White Sox (MLB), and DePaul University.
