Praxis

The Praxis exams are national licensure exams developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and required by a variety of states for initial teacher licensure.

PRAXIS I - a series of tests in reading, writing, and mathematics which verify candidates' college-level proficiencies (usually taken in sophomore year). An ACT composite score of 22 or above OR a combined SAT math/verbal score of 1030 or above will be accepted in lieu of Praxis I.

PRAXIS II (Content) - subject area tests which verify candidates' content area knowledge. Specific test requirements vary from state to state (usually taken in senior year; required prior to student teaching).

PRAXIS II (Principles of Learning and Teaching, or PLT) - test of pedagogical knowledge and skills (usually taken during student teaching).
