New Student Orientation

Held throughout June, New Student Orientation is an opportunity for new first year students to get vital preparation for the fall semester.  There are many benefits of attending New Student Orientation in June and during the overnight, two-day program you will:

• Visit with an advisor to register for courses and learn about Tulane’s curriculum requirements;
• Meet other new students and form new friendships with classmates;
  
• Learn about Tulane expectations regarding student behavior;
  
• Connect with current student leaders and hear about clubs and organizations on campus;
  
• Learn about safety, security, and emergency preparedness in the Big Easy;
  
• Explore campus life by staying in the residence halls and eating on campus; and
  
• Tour various housing options, learn about roommate selection, and find a potential match.

You will have contact with many campus services and resources and even get your student ID card made, so that you will have fewer tasks to complete once you arrive in August. All incoming new students are strongly encouraged to attend a New Student Orientation session. 

Parents are welcome to attend as well since specialized information sessions and networking opportunities will be offered just for parents. As a parent, attending New Student Orientation will help you:

• Understand Tulane’s commitment to your student’s academic and co-curricular success;
  
• Build relationships with staff and administrators and other new Tulane parents;
  
• Discuss safety and security on campus and prepare for emergency and weather situations;
  
• Discover ways to support your student throughout their Tulane experience; and
  
• Learn about physical and mental health and wellness resources on campus for your student.
  

Each of the nine session dates can accommodate approximately 150 students and up to 2 parents/guardians per student may attend as well. Sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend that you read the specific background information on dates and fees, schedules, preparation checklists, and lodging/travel resources before you secure a space. We strongly recommend that you wait to make travel arrangements until you reserve your session space, since spaces are first-come, first served.
