A New Orleans jazz band and Mardi Gras beads welcome new students at orientation.
The mission of the Office of Orientation and Student Transitions is to welcome new undergraduate students and their families to campus, introduce them to resources and facilitate relationships necessary for a successful transition to university life. Our programs help students and families learn about the University's academic expectations and opportunities for learning both in and out of the classroom.
The Office of Orientation and Student Transitions is responsible for coordinating all phases of New Student Orientation for new students in May-June; the NOLA Experience in August; Welcome Week, including events for transfer students, in August and Spring Orientation in January. The office also houses Parent Programs which provides informational presentations just for parents during New Student Orientation and coordinates Family Weekend as a part of Homecoming each fall.
Recognizing the influential role peers play in helping students adjust to their new community, we select, train and supervise over 120 student leaders and volunteers who serve as the Orientation Planning Team and Orientation Coordinators.
