Let’s Talk!
“Call Us, We Care”

Making an Appointment

ERC Staff provides short-term psychological counseling services for problems and concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems, crises, academic problems, time management, and study skills.  A variety of groups and workshops are also provided by our staff.

Counseling appointments are 45 minutes long, and typically begin on the hour. It is important to attend all scheduled counseling sessions, and to be on time.  Please call and leave a message if you know you will be late or unable to attend a scheduled appointment.  If you are late, you will have fewer than 45 minutes for your appointment.  If you are more than 10 minutes late for a session, your counselor may be unavailable, and you may need to reschedule.  If appointments are not canceled prior to the time of appointment a $20.00 no-show fee will be charged.

Individual counseling appointments are limited to 10 per academic year (counting from the first day of class to May 31).  Most students find that they are helped in less than 10 sessions.  For problems or difficulties that will likely require long-term care, your counselor may refer you to an appropriate off-campus resource.

Because of the demand for ERC services, counselors cannot guarantee appointments at the same day and time each week.  Instead, at the end of each counseling session, you can go to the front desk to schedule another appointment.  Depending on your counselor’s available time, sometimes you will have to wait for more than one week for your next appointment.

Current Tulane students may schedule an appointment for individual counseling by visiting the Center for Educational Resources and Counseling between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday - Friday and filling out some brief paperwork. An appointment is typically given 1 to 4 days later, provided that the student is willing to meet with the first available counselor. During periods of high demand, the wait may be longer.

If the situation appears to be a crisis or emergency, please tell an Educational Resources and Counseling staff member. Educational Resources and Counseling counselors will make every effort to respond quickly to students in crisis with an appointment or a telephone call.

Counseling and support groups are free of charge to Tulane students, and are confidential to the full extent allowed by law.
