Elham Ahmadi

Tyler Barker

Erin Beyerstedt

I am originally from Wisconsin which is where I did my undergraduate work. I graduated from Carthage College in 2003 with majors in mathematics & biology and minors in religion & business. I spent the following year teaching math at a private high school. From 2004-2006 I attended Western Washington University and earned my master's degree in mathematics. In the fall of 2006 I began work here at Tulane in the PhD program, supported by a VIGRE fellowship. This is now my fifth year and I am working with Victor Moll, focusing on combinatorics. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, pottery, exploring the city, dancing, listening to live music, sampling the amazing food found in nola, traveling, and spending time with friends.

Peter Bierhorst

I am originally from New York City. I graduated from Harvard in 2004 with a degree in Mathematics. After graduation, I worked in politics for a while, then tutored math for a living, living in New York City and then in Portland, OR. Eventually it became clear that I missed learning math and hated cold weather, so I moved south and started here at Tulane in Fall 2008. My mathematical interests include Probability and Topology. I enjoy a New Orleans staple, the fried shrimp po-boy sandwich, and am a fan of New Orleans style piano.

Jason Calmes

I grew up in a small town near Hammond, La, not far from New Orleans. I attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where I received a B.S. Mathematics, a B.S. in Physics, and a B.A. in English. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student at Tulane University where I have received a M.S. in Mathematics and am pursuing a M.S. in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics. I am studying orbispaces and their homology and cohomology with Dr. Terry Lawson and Dr. Weimin Chen. I am supported by a Board of Regents Fellowship and have been an instructor in both Calculus and Probability & Statistics. In my meager spare time, I maintain my domain (http://www.overmen.net/), play and record music (guitar, bass), read sci-fi, fantasy, and philosophy, and keep up with my favorite TV shows and football (God's favorite sport).

Jason Miller

I was born and raised in Hamden, CT. I graduated from Marist College in 2007 with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a Chemistry concentration. My mathematical interests are mostly applied, including fluid dynamics and computation. In my spare time I like to play sports (hockey, baseball, golf, and tennis) and music (guitar and drums). I also consider myself somewhat of an outdoorsman as I like to go camping and fly-fishing.

Jeff Pullen

I grew up in Roswell, GA which is a northern suburb of Atlanta. I graduated from Berry College in 2006 with a B.S. in Mathematics before coming to the Ph.D. program at Tulane. My research interests include geometric topology, knot theory, and probability based homology theory. When I'm not doing math, I enjoy playing sports, video games, and hanging out with my friends.

Chao Qi

Zhuolin Qu

Christina Rosch

James Salvatore

I'm originally from central New Jersey. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2009 with a degree in Mathematics and spent the following year tutoring New Jersey high school students in math and science. I've also started a mathblog to teach higher-level maths to interested high school and undergraduate students. My math interests are currently topology and algebra. When I'm not doing math, I'm interested in playing instruments (whatever ones I can get my hands on), cooking, playing Super Nintendo games, and biking.

Shanshan Shen

Armin Straub

While I basically enjoy all kinds of Mathematics, I am currently focusing on a very enjoyable mix of combinatorics, special functions and computer algebra, usually related to the evaluation of integrals (sure enough: my advisor is Victor Moll). I spent my first year at Tulane in 2006/2007 and then went back to Germany, my home country, for a year to finish a diploma and graduate from TU Darmstadt. Since 2008 I'm back at Tulane. In my free time I particularly enjoy eating, working out, playing poker, watching the stock market, experimenting, and playing soccer (though I can't even shoot straight).

I am from China, where I got my master degree in mathematics in 2007. Now I am a Ph.D student at Tulane math department. Here I want to learn something about probability theory and stochastic processes, which may lead to my thesis. I like Ping Pang during my spare time.
