Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University is to develop, apply and disseminate scientific knowledge about the Earth and Earth's systems throughout its 4.6 billion year history. Our mission includes:   

  • Provision of high-quality undergraduate and graduate education in the earth and environmental sciences
  • Development of our students as scientists
  • Education of Tulane's general student population about Earth and its natural systems
  • Development of new knowledge through scientific research
  • Effective communication of new knowledge to the global community
  • Application of scientific knowledge to address practical problems affecting human society and the environment, including stewardship of the natural world
  • To serve as a source of reliable scientific information within the university community and beyond.
