top ⇑Minor in Marine Biology

Marine Biology Minor for EEB Majors (MBEB)

In addition to the core courses and the elective courses (selected after discussion with Marine Biology advisor) required for either the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEBI) major or the Environmental Biology (ENVB) major, students who wish to add a minor in Marine Biology will complete an additional 16 credits beyond those required for the EEB major which will include:


  • EBIO 2100 – Marine Biology (3 credits)
  • EBIO 2230 – Oceanography (3 credits)
  • EBIO 4250 – Marine Invertebrates (4 credits)
  • Two approved summer courses at an approved marine field station (6 credits)

These courses cannot be counted toward either EEB major for those students electing to complete an EEB major and the Marine Biology minor. Courses to be completed at the marine field station must be approved for transfer credit by the Marine Biology advisor before they are taken at the marine field station.

Marine Biology Minor for Non-EEB Majors (MBNM)

Students majoring in departments other than EEB who wish to complete a minor in Marine Biology will complete:


  • CELL 1010 – General Biology (3 credits)
  • EBIO 1010 / 1015 – Diversity of Life – Lecture & Lab (4 credits)
  • EBIO 2100 – Marine Biology (3 credits)
  • EBIO 3040 – General Ecology – (3 credits)
  • EBIO 4250 – Marine Invertebrates (4 credits) or EBIO 2230 – Oceanography (3 credits)
  • One approved summer course at an approved marine field station (3 credits)

These courses represent a total of 23-24 credits. The course to be completed at the marine field station must be approved for transfer credit by the Marine Biology advisor before it is taken at the marine field station.

DISCONTINUED EFFECTIVE 2012 FALL SEMESTER

Undergraduate MinorsStudents who minor in EEB should complete CELL 1010 and EBIO 1010 / 1015 for seven credits, EBIO 3080 for three credits, EBIO 3040/3045 for four credits, and two additional EEB courses for a minimum total of 21 credits. One of the two elective courses must be a laboratory of field course. Courses from other departments may not be used as electives for the minor. In addition, courses representing special projects, independent studies, honors theses, internship studies and seminars cannot be used to satisfy elective requirements. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the Biological Chemistry major, students in this program may not minor in EEB.
