Magnocellular neurons in the hypothalamus release oxytocin and vasopressin, which are
involved in fluid homeostasis regulation. Morphological as well as electrophysiological
studies suggest that there are upregulation of the glutamatergic innervation under chronic stimulation such as dehydration and lactation. Using molecular approach in combination with electrophysiological recording method, we want to know whether there are upregulation of the postsynaptic glutamate receptors and whether they contribute differently to excitability of oxytocin and vasopressin neurons.
