2009 Summer Research Opportunities for Undergraduate Students

Be part of a collaborative program among

  • Tulane University Center for Computational Science
  • Tulane University Biochemistry department
  • Louisiana Tech Institute for Micromanufacturing
  • University of New Orleans Chemistry department

This group of partners announce a new six-week summer research program for undergraduate students from Tulane, LaTech, UNO or Xavier majoring in mathematics, science and engineering. The goal of the program is to introduce students to the use of computational techniques in applications that may include molecular dynamics, computational fluid flow, enzyme kinetics, and antibody-antigen interactions. Teams of students will be placed at one of the universities listed above according to their academic background and preference.

The application deadline has now passed. Please check back early 2010.

Details. The program is six weeks long and takes place through June and July, 2009.
Approximately 10 highly motivated students will be selected to participate in research groups at one of the units listed above.  We are looking for:

    * Students majoring in mathematics, engineering or science
    * Coursework relevant to at least one of biochemistry, chemistry, computation, mathematics biology
    * Interest in multidisciplinary research
    * Students from underrepresented minorities are especially sought

Rewards. The program will

    * A $2,700 stipend
    * Experience in collaborative research in teams of faculty and students
    * Opportunities for and mentoring on research presentations
    * Valuable information about graduate school
