James “Wes” Barnett graduated from Mississippi State University in 2007 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He received an M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2011, and from 2010 through 2012 he worked full-time doing construction materials testing. Wes enrolled in the department's Ph.D. program in 2012 and is advised by Dr. Hank Ashbaugh.

Wes uses Molecular Dynamics and some computational quantum mechanical methods in order to better understand specific molecular systems. His current work involves investigating the effect of confinement on various molecular guests in dimeric cavitand assemblies. Additionally, he is studying how to solute chain length and temperature affect hydrophobic hydration.
