Each year, the Department recognizes students and faculty who’ve achieved notable success in scholarship, research and teaching. At this year’s ceremony, we honored:
|Kenneth H. Kuhn, Sr. Memorial Award:
Presented to the Senior Team with the highest score, as evaluated by a panel of judges.

Lee Murfee, Advisor
|Alpha Eta Mu Beta Outstanding Student:
Awarded to a junior in Biomedical Engineering based on Outstanding Scholarship.
|Nissim Nathan Cohen Award:
Presented to the graduating senior in Biomedical Engineering who has contributed most to his class, to his school, and to the profession of Biomedical Engineering.
|Tulane Biomedical Engineering Society Scholarship Award:
Presented to the biomedical engineering senior with the highest scholastic average.
|Joyous and William C. Van Buskirk Graduate Student Fellowship:
Named in honor of the Founding Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and his wife. The award is generally for a BS-MS student who is entering the fifth year of study.
|Graduate Student Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award:
Honors outstanding service as a Teaching Assistant in Biomedical Engineering, based on a vote of undergraduate students in Biomedical Engineering.
|Graduate Student Outstanding Achievement Award:
Selected by the Biomedical Engineering faculty, based on scholarship, independent research, mentoring of fellow students, and/or leadership.
|Alpha Eta Mu Beta 'Teacher of the Year':
Chosen by undergraduate and graduate students in the department of biomedical engineering.
In addition, there were a number of humorous awards recognizing the special talents of graduating seniors. “Best mustache,” “class clown,” and “Hermione Granger” were among the categories. A full list of awards, and their recipients, is here >>.
