The grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Ruth U. Fertel / Tulane Community Health Center and Brinton Family Health & Healing Center on June 7, 2012 was attended by New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City Health Commissioner Dr. Karen DeSalvo, Tulane President Scott Cowen, and representatives from the Brinton and Fertel families including Bill Brinton and Randy Fertel, as well as other important donors to the project and many others. The event made news locally and nationally:

Construction teams are making progress on the new Ruth U. Fertel/Tulane Community Health Center at 711 N. Broad St., which is slated to open in spring 2012.

When finished, the Tulane Community Health Center at Covenant House will relocate into the new clinic and offer both adult and children’s services for the Treme, Mid-City and surrounding neighborhoods. Ruth’s Hospitality Group donated the site, formerly Ruth’s Chris Steak House. A combination of public and private dollars are making the project possible.

Tulane School of Medicine is the recipient of the 2010 Spencer Foreman Award for Outstanding Community Service. This prestigious award, sponsored by the American Association of Medical Colleges, identifies community service as an important element of the academic mission, and recognizes institutions that demonstrate social responsibility in the academic medical community.
