COBRE III Pilot Projects & Investigators

Each year, 3 investigators are awarded a one year $50,000 grant to support their research. Applications are subjected to a rigorous review process to ensure that funds are provided to only the most highly meritorious projects that are likely to lead to extramural research support and will stimulate multidisciplinary collaborative interactions. The following are names of Pilot Project award recipients and information on their pilot project.

2012-2013

2012-2013 Pilot Project award recipients were Minolfa C. Prieto, M.D., Ph.D., Andrei V. Derbenev, Ph.D., and Zubaida Saifudeen, Ph.D. The following were the three pilot projects:

  • Pilot Project 1:
    Functional Role of ProRenin Receptor in the Collecting Duct to the Development of Hypertensionlar.
    ~ PI: Minolfa C. Prieto, M.D., Ph.D., Mentor: Dr. L. G. Navar.
  • Pilot Project 2:
    Role of p53 in Nephron Progenitor Cell Renewal and Differentiation
    .
    ~ PI: Zubaida Saifudeen, Ph.D., Mentor: Dr. Samir S. El-Dahr.
  • Pilot Project 3:
    Regulation of inhibitory circuits in the RVLM by angiotensin II.
    ~ PI: Andrei V. Derbenev, Ph.D., Mentor: Dr. L. G. Navar.

2013-2014 Pilot Project award recipients were Kenneth D. Mitchell, Ph.D.., Ryosuke Sato, Ph.D.., and Ihor V. Yosypiv, M.D. The following were the three pilot projects:

  • Pilot Project 1:
    PDGF Receptor Blockade Reverses the Renal Functional and Morphological Changes that occur in AngiotensinII-Dependant Hypertension.
