Rishi Chavan, MD
Dr. Chavan joined the section of pediatric hematology/oncology as an attending physician in 2012 after completing fellowship training in pediatric hematology oncology Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers – Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Prior to which he was here at Tulane for his pediatric residency from 2006 to 2009 working with Drs. Scher, Hemenway and Schorin. Dr. Chavan is currently leading several clinical trials aspiring to improve the quality of life for patients with sickle cell disease, by researching better ways to avoid vaso-occlusive (pain) crisis and related complications. He works closely with Drs. Singleton and Kruse -Jarres, seeing the pediatric and adolescent patients ensuring their comprehensive care and appropriate transition. He is also a part of the Bone Marrow Transplant (HSCT) program here at Tulane, offering HSCT to sickle cell patients who meet the criteria for transplant as a potential option for cure. His primary focus is to ensure the prevention of long-term complications in sickle cell patients by meticulous follow up, patient education, appropriate medical management, social interventions and community participation to improve compliance amongst patients by instilling team approach to provide best quality of care.
