Newborn Clinic

The newborn sickle cell clinic is for patients from birth until 1 year of age.  The clinic visits are one hour long to provide the most comprehensive education and care regionally available for newborns and infants with sickle cell disease.  There is a focus on education and teaching as well as specialized psychosocial support for new parents of babies with sickle cell disease.

The newborn clinic is for any patient from birth till 1 year of age with sickle cell disease.  It is open to any parents who feel they need more education and teaching about the disease.  We provide genetic counseling, disease education, medication awareness, and confirmatory testing.

The program is located in the pediatric hematology clinic on the 5th floor of  Tulane University Downtown Hospital at the Tulane Hospital for Children. The clinic is part of the Sickle Cell Center of Southern Louisiana (SCCSL).  The attending hematologists are Dr. Julie Kanter (Washko) and Dr. Tami Singleton.
