The Medical Education Research Certificate program is intended to provide the knowledge necessary to understand the purposes and processes of medical education research, to become informed consumers of the medical education research literature, and to be effective collaborators in medical education research. By itself, the MERC is not intended to produce independent medical education researchers. The program is open to all who are interested in improving their educational research skills and is targeted for those with a background in medical education but relatively less experience in conducting educational research. “Advances in Patient Simulation for GME”
Hosted by LSUHSC Center for Advanced Practice (Lion's Building)

Patient simulators provide students, residents, and physicians with the knowledge, attitudes and specific skills to practice medical procedures and communicate effectively with team members in an authentic learning environment without risk to patients. In addition, simulators allow for reliable assessment of core competencies using realistic case-based learning scenarios important for safe medical practices. Conference attendees will

1. Examine potential benefits and limitations of teaching with patient simulators
2. Discuss assessment strategies for performance of procedures and team-based decisions
3. Explore reliable measures for assessing resident competencies through simulation
4. Review resources for creating and designing a patient simulation laboratory
5. Summarize simulation training applications to patient safety environments
