A note from the Director, Bruce Bunnell, Ph.D.

As the new Director of the Tulane Center for Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine, I am excited about the new direction of our research. The research focus has broadened to include investigators who represent  all of the Tulane campuses, multiple departments and programs within the Medical School, as well as the Biomedical Engineering program, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering program and the Tulane National Primate Research Center.  My goal is to make our center  a scientific resource not only for Tulane, but also for the greater New Orleans area and  the  state of Louisiana.  To accomplish this we have recruited faculty from other Louisiana institutions to become members of our Center, including Xavier University in New Orleans and the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.

To facilitate our mission, we will:
  • Continue to investigate and support the development of regenerative medicine research projects across Tulane and the State of Louisiana.
  • Expand our research in the basic science and the clinical/translational uses of stem cells.
  • Continue to focus on adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), but also expand our research horizons to include novel stem cell populations, including other adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
  • Create multidisciplinary teams and research programs that leverage the broad expertise and extensive resources that are available at the Uptown and Medical  Campuses and at the Tulane National Primate Research Center.
  • Lead the discussion and development of stem cell policies within our state and the region,
  • However, none of this will be possible without the support of our Tulane family and friends.
Thank you for insuring Tulane’s place as a nationally recognized Center for Regenerative Medicine!
