Research Interest:
Characterization of chromosome microdeletion syndromes with particular interest in deletion in 22q13

Katy Phelan, Ph.D., is the Director of the Cytogenetics Laboratory at the Hayward Genetics Center at Tulane University School of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in human cytogenetics at the Greenwood Genetic Center in South Carolina. Dr. Phelan is a Founding Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics as a Clinical Cytogeneticist and as a Ph.D. Medical Geneticist. She is the President of the Southeastern Regional Genetic Group (SERGG) (2012-2014) and serves on the American College of Medical Genetics Economics of Genetic Services Committee. She is the Founder of the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS) Family Support Group and Research Foundation and a member of the PMS Research Advisory Board.
