Our program is of the three year independent format and is fully accredited. We accept two residents per year for a total of six residents.
The Residency Training Program is designed to provide each resident with progressive responsibility and the fullest possible experience in all areas of plastic surgery. Our diverse specialty covers the skin and its contents and can offer a lifetime of challenge, excitement and reward. The full breadth and depth of plastic surgical services are offered and taught at Tulane. This includes cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections, liposuction, facelift, abdominoplasty, body lifts, laser resurfacing and breast augmentation. We also offer state of the art in reconstructive surgery such as breast, trunk, craniofacial and lower extremity reconstruction, advance limb salvage techniques, cleft lip and palate surgery, microsurgery, skin cancer and melanoma, scar revisions and state of the art wound care.
In addition to bedside, operating room and clinic teaching, educational activities include Grand Rounds, formal conferences, weekly resident lectures, Morbidity and Mortality conference, guest lectures, and local meetings. There is an invaluable anatomical cadaver dissection course encompassing the head, neck, trunk, lower and upper extremity. An animal microsurgical laboratory is also available to improve microsurgical skills and techniques.
Senior residents are encouraged to present papers at various residents' and national meetings on approval of the Director. Junior residents will have the opportunity to attend a national meeting as well. Fully equipped laboratories are available for research in microsurgery, wound repair, vasculogenesis, nerve regeneration, and immunology. All trainees are required to participate in these programs.
