Program Overview

Our five-year ACGME accredited program incorporates all areas of general surgery into rigorous clinical, instructive and analytical training. Established in 1834, the Tulane Surgery residency program is among the oldest, most-respected programs in the country. It has continued through pestilence, civil war and devastating natural disaster.

In 2007, focused on the future of surgical education and regional healthcare delivery, we redesigned our curriculum and expanded clinical rotations into seven local hospitals.

Currently, Tulane Surgery has 40 academic and 45 clinical faculty members working in eight sections: general, cardiovascular, endocrine, pediatric, plastic and reconstructive, surgical oncology, transplant and hepatobiliary, and trauma and critical care.

Our residents come to Tulane from across the country. We are dedicated to training diverse individuals who contribute uniquely to the collective talent of the department.
