"The thing that attracted me, and continues to impress me about the program is the camaraderie between the residents.  Tulane truly has a very close-knit unit. We support each other, and encourage each other to improve on a regular basis."

"It's easy to say that I'm getting great training in one of the most amazing cities in the U.S., but what really made the difference for me here is the residents.  Tulane's Surgery Department has put together a group of people who care not only about their patients, but about each other and the program we are all a part of."

"The thing that makes our program a rare one indeed is the commitment to mentorship. Virtually anything that can be imagined can be actualized at our program as long as a resident is willing to put the elbow grease to do it, because the support to make it happen is there among the faculty. I have been afforded international surgical experience unheard of at almost any other program, and been able to procure grant money for an invention idea, because I have had the support from faculty to do so. There is no such thing as stonewalling at our program. As far as one can imagine is as far as they can get at our program."

"I was immediately impressed by the level of responsibility interns are given, particularly the early introduction to bedside and basic OR procedures. We are held strictly to that responsibility, which imparts not only accountability and professionalism but a sense of ownership to our operative as well as academic training."

"New Orleans is a city with a spirit and culture like no other, and a wonderful place to live. It's also a city that has a patient population with healthcare needs that are great and diverse. As such, it provides opportunities both to serve a truly worthy cause and to learn to treat a wide array of medical problems that many other places in the United States rarely encounter. Tulane has the only surgery department whose residents spend twelve months out of the year right here in New Orleans, and that's why I chose Tulane."
