Advances in Pharmacology Course Policies

I. COURSE ADMINISTRATORS

II. COURSE FORMAT

The format for the course will involve the presentation of a current paper in the literature. Each session will consist of the presentation of a research paper with ~3 students presenting the work of each assigned paper. The course director will select the papers. The presenting groups of students must go over the presentation with the course instructor at least 2 days before the presentation.

III. COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Increase your knowledge about current topics of basic and clinical research in the areas of pharmacology and therapeutics
2. To further develop your ability to analyze a research publication
3. To give you additional experience at giving scientific presentations. There will be no exams. Attendance is mandatory.

IV. PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

The group of students will divide up the presentation into:

• Introduction with a rationale for the study
• Methods
• Results
• Discussion
• Weakness or limitation and strength of the work

V. ATTENDANCE POLICY

Attendance is mandatory. There will be a sign-in sheet for each session. Missing more than two sessions without an excused absence will result in a reduction of grade by one grade unit per absence.

VI. GRADING

Grading will be based upon the quality of course presentations.
