The integrated pediatric residency program of the Tulane University School of Medicine and Ochsner Health System provides an unparalleled opportunity for the pediatrician-in-training to develop competence in all aspects of health care that affect infants, children, and adolescents. The Tulane Department of Pediatrics Residency Training was established in 1927 as one of the first programs in the US to train physicians in the fundamentals of child/adolescent health care. In 1991, Tulane combined with Ochsner Health System to offer expanded experiences and opportunities in patient care.

The combined Tulane/Ochsner Pediatric Residency Program, through excellence in general pediatrics, complete subspecialty care, and nationally recognized research, provides our residents a  complete background in pediatrics preparing them for any future pediatric enterprise.

Graduated responsibility for patient care is a hallmark of our program. Along with increasing supervisory roles, during their training Tulane/Ochsner residents are required to give grand rounds, complete a research project and quality improvement initiative, and actively participate in a board review program that begins during the first month of internship. Emphasis is placed on autonomy within a team environment, critical thinking, and career development.

During residency, the Tulane/Ochsner pediatric resident will be exposed to a socioeconomically and culturally diverse patient population who present with a vast array of medical issues. Patients come from New Orleans, the Southeastern United States, and Latin America. Clinical rotations take place in private, tertiary, and indigent care centers with training and teaching augmented by faculty renowned for their research and clinical expertise.
