Welcome to the Tulane Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Website

MedPeds

Greetings from Tulane Med-Peds and thanks for visiting! The further you look, the more you'll find that this residency, in many ways, is unique. Among our many attributes, residents at Tulane enjoy life both inside and outside of the clinical setting. We're fun-loving people who place an emphasis on collaboration in learning, in taking care of our patients, and in living life to the fullest in this fantastic city. We think you'll find yourself at home with us. So come see for yourself!

There are many reasons we love it here. First, residents at Tulane enjoy a clinical culture where learning is always the priority. We have a thorough and well-designed curriculum that includes daily conferences on both pediatrics and medicine services and a half-day each week of dedicated teaching. We have a new state-of-the-art simulation center, which we take advantage of regularly. There's also our quarterly MedPeds journal club, our unique Med-Peds Womb-to-Tomb board-review series, our Transitional Care Med-Peds Grand Round Series, and our night-shift curriculum. The list goes on and on. We also have some of the most dedicated teaching faculty you'll find anywhere in the country.

Since 1988, our major goal has been to develop the inquisitive mind, the crucial element of clinical and laboratory investigation, and superb patient care. While training at Tulane University Medical Center, Tulane Hospital for Children, Medical Center of Louisiana - New Orleans (MCLNO i.e. Charity Hospital) and Ochsner Clinic Foundation, you'll gain an in-depth understanding of normal growth and development, the aging process, and diseases that affect infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.

By and large, though, our patients are our greatest teachers. No city of its size offers the diversity of New Orleans.  Our patients also come from all over the rest of Louisiana (and beyond), and rotating in many different institutions allows us to work with practically every segment of the population.  Unfortunately, many of our patients deal with significant barriers to health and healthcare, especially since Hurricane Katrina devastated the area in 2005. As a result, we see pathology that is rarely found in many parts of the country. We also experience the tremendous rewards of helping patients in great need.

All Med-Peds residents share a continuity experience at our dedicated Med-Peds clinic in the heart of downtown New Orleans. Our clinic preceptors are accomplished local Med-Peds physicians, many of whom also spend significant time each year practicing medicine abroad. We also have the benefit of working with inspiring pediatricians and internists at our many diverse clinical sites. And no matter what hospital or clinic we're at, learning is always central.
