Our clinical enterprises, educational endeavors and research programs are growing at a steady pace.  As you can see in the attached newsletter, our department now has 50 full-time faculty members (16 of them are newly hired).

 We have also established new clinical services including the Pediatric ER, Hospitalist service and Community Pediatrics.  Our categorical Pediatric and Med-Ped Residency programs are thriving as are our fellowship programs in Infectious Diseases, Nephrology and Allergy-Immunology.  Our research enterprise remains strong; we now rank in the top 1/3 of US pediatric departments in NIH funding. 

The mission of the Department is to advance knowledge in the field of Pediatrics through innovative medical education to students, residents and fellows; cutting-edge basic and applied health research; and quality clinical services in general and specialty pediatrics.

Because faculty are vital for successful change, the Department of Pediatrics is regaining its critical core of physicians through aggressive faculty recruiting.  We want our faculty to make a difference in the lives of not just our children but the whole community.  

The training environment at Tulane provides one of the most diverse residency experiences in the country. Residents are exposed to a variety of primary and tertiary health care systems, including primary care regional hospitals, private hospitals and Tulane University Hospital.  Our combined residency program with the Ochsner Health System also provides the resident with a balanced mix of primary care and subspecialty training.
