Blood and Blood Components Available:

 

Red Blood Cells:

            Packed red blood cells
                        Requires approximately 1 hour to prepare

            Washed red blood cells
                        Requires additional 40 minutes preparation time

            Frozen, dyglycerized red blood cells
           
            By special request only; requires 2-4 hours preparation time, and outdate I
                        24 hours after thawing.

 

Platelets:

            Platelet concentrates
           
            Require 20 minutes for pooling (6)

            Platelets pheresis
                        As available

            Cross Matched Compatible Platelets
                        By special request; testing M-F. Requires 24-48 hours.

            HLA-Matched Platelets
                        By special request. Requires approximately 48-72 hours.

 

Granulocytes:

            By special request. Requires approximately 48-72 hours.

 

Whole Blood:

            By special request.

 

Irradiated, Leukocyte Depleted, or CMV-seronegative cellular products:

            Available upon request.

           

Fresh Frozen Plasma:

            Requires approximately 20 minutes for thawing

 

Cryoprecipitate (AHF):

            Requires 30 minutes for pooling

 

Rarely, autologous or directed blood is requested.

Autologous or Directed blood donations may be arranged through the Blood Bank only upon specific written order by the physician. The specified donors will report to The Blood Center or their local blood collection center to donate the specified products.
