About the Department of Neurosurgery

Neurological Surgery is a discipline of medicine that provide the operative management and non-operative management (i.e. prevention, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, critical care and rehabilitation) of disorders that affects the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their supporting structures, and vascular supply and the operative and non operative management of pain. As such, neurological surgery encompasses the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with disorders of the nervous system, disorders of the brain, meninges, skull and their blood supply, including the extracranial carotid and verterbral arteries, disorders of the pituitary gland; disorders of the spinal cord, meninges, and vertebral column and disorders of the cranial and spinal nerves throughout their distributions. Our outstanding faculty members deliver clinical and operative services at Tulane Medical Center, Ochsner Foundation Hospital, Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans, Women & Children's Hospital in Lafayette, La., and inpatient (via Tulane hospital) and outpatient services for Veterans Affairs Hospital in New Orleans. These affiliated institutions provide our faculty members and residents with a broad range of educational, operative, clinical, and research opportunities.
