Tulane Neurology is proudly starting a vascular neurology fellowship.
We are aiming to start an ACGME-accredited vascular neurology fellowship July 2014.
Stroke is a major cause of death; most strokes are caused by clots that obstruct arteries, disrupting blood flow to parts of the brain.
Tulane's Stroke Team has the highest sustained rate of treatment with the clot-busting drug (tPA) - the only proven treatment to improve outcome from stroke - in the state of Louisiana.
Based on Get With The Guidelines, treatment at Tulane is delivered faster than other Joint Commission hospitals (on average almost 20 minutes faster), saving more brain and reducing disability.
As Tulane transitioned from a Primary Stroke Center to a Comprehensive Stroke Center, substantial reductions in inpatient complications, including urinary tract infection and pneumonia, and higher rates of discharge to home or intensive inpatient rehab occurred.
Tulane's Stroke Program is actively involved in NIH-sponsored, industry-sponsored, and investigator-initiated clinical trials, offering the most promising adjunctive therapies to improve stroke outcomes.
