Clinical Training


The goal of the first year of fellowship is to acquire diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic skills through participation in direct patient care in supervised inpatient and outpatient settings. For a list of faculities see clinical care.  A typical year includes:

  • Two months on the Tulane Inpatient Consult Rotation
  • One month on Tulane Transplant Service
  • Two months on MCLNO Consult Rotation
  • One month on VA Consult Rotation
  • One month on Ochsner Consult Rotation
  • Four months of Research
  • Four weeks of vacation (taken during elective time)
  • Two half-day continuity clinics per week
  • Dialysis Shifts throughout the year.

The goal of the second year of fellowship is to extend knowledge to include more esoteric aspects of Nephrology, such as the genetic disorders leading to hypertension. A typical year includes:

  • Two months on the Tulane Inpatient Consult Rotation
  • One month on Tulane Transplant Service
  • Two months on MCLNO Consult Rotation
  • One months on VA Consult Rotation
  • Five months of Research
  • Four weeks of vacation (taken during elective time)
  • Two half-day continuity clinics per week
  • Dialysis Shifts throughout the year.
